What is ACAM?

ACAM is short for A Country a Month. It’s a project I started in early 2010 to help me do research for this world trip. The idea is to study up on the history, culture, and sightseeing spots of one country each month and write about it here. As with so many projects, it hasn’t always gone as planned (one country took three months to finish, I took a break altogether for another four months), but I still find it a useful guide to organizing my trip. It’s important to me to know something about each country I visit, so I don’t show up a total ignoramus and loudly broadcast all my tourist assumptions and reactions. Responsible, meaningful travel involves this investment in the places we travel and the people we meet.
