Hello, dearest fellow travelers! How are you all doing this fine summer day? The wretched heat wave that smothered the Midwest for a full week has finally broken–we’re now at the point where 85 degrees feels wonderfully temperate, compared to the muggy 100 we were sweltering through. A weather opener, how dull, I know, but I mention it by way of explanation: last week I was taking typhoid medication, the side effects of which include dizziness and disorientation, and I was also suffering through a week of extreme heat that dulled my brain and made me snappish. So I didn’t prepare any pieces for you this week, and instead you get the twice-weekly photos (I am faithful in that), and an excuse today, and hopefully something more substantial on Thursday.
